My Experience With Wealthy Affiliate
Why It’s Not A Scam
Wealthy Affiliate was established in 2005, and it is now widely regarded as the #1 platform in the world for learning how to become an affiliate marketer online. Unlike your typical ‘boot camp’ program, Wealthy Affiliate has so much more to offer than just the education. I recently found out first hand how the managed WordPress hosting alone is worth the membership.
For the first time in my career, I no longer have to worry about getting hacked or having a ‘technical difficulty’ that I didn’t understand; with Wealthy Affiliate technical help is available 24/7 and it is lightning fast. I had a frozen website back up and running in under 3 minutes! There are 5 key features that will help you on your way to making money full-time online and freeing yourself from the rat race (what would you do if you could work anywhere in the world and be your own boss?). These 5 key features are:
- Website building platform (managed WordPress hosting included!)
- Tools such as keyword research tool, rapid writer, and advanced grammar checker.
- Support, including 1 on 1 mentoring
- An active and supportive community
I will go into these in a lot more detail below, but let’s get one thing out of the way at the top. Wealthy Affiliate is not a scam, and what’s even better, there is no hype.
The biggest problem I found when trying to find the right education to help me make money online through affiliate marketing was the hype. I kept bumping into websites that got me so worked up with excitement, I struggled to see through the sales pitch to the fact that actually, this wasn’t the program for me.
Then there are the outright scams that must be avoided at all cost, and unfortunately, there are a lot of them. I am very passionate about helping people avoid hype and scams because I know how good life can be once you find the right program and start making progress. New opportunities open up and life gets better… a lot better. What would you be able to do with even just a few hundred dollars a week in passive income?
What would you do if you were able to quit your job completely and live on passive income? I can work from my laptop anywhere in the world where there is a good internet connection, and on a typical day, I finish work before noon.
This has allowed me to spend quality time with my son, who only does two mornings a week at kindergarten, and I moved to the countryside where I spend as much time as I can with my family (including my dog). I have the time to stay fit, I compete in Ironman triathlons, I’m healthy, and I’m full of life. Working online full-time is how I got here. But that’s my dream. What’s yours?
Wealthy Affiliate – My Overview and Ratings
Name: Wealthy Affiliate Website
Upsells: Upgrade to yearly to save $20 a month. Totally worth it when you are ready. Jaaxy is introduced during the training as a keyword research tool and it is a great option once you get going. There is a free keyword tool that is absolutely fine until you can afford Jaaxy. Again, there is no hype or pressure to use Jaaxy, which I love.
Price: Starter member (Free). Premium member ($49 a month or $359 a year). There is enough functionality as a starter member to get a taste for what Wealthy Affiliate has to offer, but with a money back guarantee in the first month I upgraded straight away to get the ball rolling with all the features activated, and that worked well for me.
What does it take to succeed online?
Just like building a successful career offline, making money online takes some time to get established. It involves learning new skills and it takes hard work. Like most things in life, most people will fail. Not because they couldn’t do it but because they give up. You won’t make millions in your first month, and to even think like that is dangerous as you will probably get scammed.
The results you get in life are 100% your responsibility, but the opportunity is here for you if you want to take it. Let’s be clear about what you are looking into: working as an affiliate marketer involves building websites, attracting traffic, and then converting that traffic into sales, whether it is on your own website or through an affiliate partner like Amazon. This process takes time, which is why I recommend you keep your day job, work hard in your free time and build up your projects as quickly as you can.
Once you know what you are doing, it is entirely realistic to build a website in a few weeks or even less, and there are tricks to help you supercharge your website that you will learn about in Wealthy Affiliate training, for example looking for very targeted traffic using Google Ads. Nonetheless, I would allow yourself at least 6 to 12 months to find your feet and to get some momentum going. In terms of cash flow, working online is one of the best opportunities available because you can start with as little as around $100 a month
A new website name only costs around $15 (it can be less, especially with good signup sweeteners of $1 in your first year etc.) and Wealthy Affiliate is only $29 in your first month. Once you get going, you will have around $50-$70 a month left over in your budget after your Wealthy Affiliate membership fee to spend on online advertising, or perhaps you could initially spend some of this money to outsource some of the tasks that you need help with on a website like Fiverr? I personally started with a budget of $100 a month and that can grow very quickly once you start to build passive income.
Wealthy Affiliate is not a scam:
Here is what you get for your money
Wealthy Affiliate is first and foremost education. If you drop out of an engineering degree at college, it wasn’t a scam. It just wasn’t the right fit for whatever reason. In some cases, you may have been misled by some slick advertising claiming a high paying job at the end of your degree, or a lifestyle experience that wasn’t true, however, hype is different to an outright scam.
The fact that many thousands of people are actively making money online after taking this education is evidence enough that Wealthy Affiliate isn’t a scam, and my best advice is simply to sign up and try it out for yourself. Spending one month as a premium member is nothing compared to the fees a college or university charge upfront these days. Spending $40,000 on a business degree is my biggest regret in life. Dipping my toe in for $49 a month is peanuts in comparison, as far as I am concerned.
I’ve also touched on this idea of hype, and it’s a big concern of mine. Misleading people into doing something that doesn’t fit them is a dreadful business practice. I’m sure you’ve seen ads on YouTube of people driving fancy cars or introducing themselves from a tropical beach. It’s all hype and I really dislike it. The thing I loved the most about Wealthy Affiliate when I first got started was the down to earth nature of the owners Kyle and Carson.
So if you really want to give this a crack, dive in, sign up for the first month and invest some time getting yourself acquainted. Within the first month, make a decision to either back out or really give it your best shot.
This really can be the way to freedom, I can tell you from my own experience that making money online full-time is the greatest gift you can give yourself, as you are able to start living life on your own terms.
Education: become an online marketing ninja
The education that Wealthy Affiliate provides is extensive, no matter what your experience. The Certification course takes you through everything you need to know to become an expert digital marketer. The 5 levels of certification are:
- Getting Started
- Building your own traffic producing website (the meat and bones)
- Making Money (the fun bit!)
- Mastering social engagement
- Achieving maximum success through content creation (what I love doing the most)
If you are an advanced marketer like I was when I started, you can do the Getting Started level in 1 day, assuming you already have an idea ready to go for your website.
From there, I really recommend you take the lessons 1 at a time as there are always holes in your knowledge and the course is comprehensive. If you are totally new to online marketing, the getting started level is the perfect introduction to developing your very own website and it is a really exciting process!
By the end of the very first level, you will have your own website that is 100% owned by you! Very cool.
The best thing about the education within Wealthy Affiliate is that this certification course is completely separate from the Affiliate Bootcamp, which is where you learn how to promote Wealthy Affiliate.
This is such an honest and refreshing approach, as there is nothing worse than having your own dreams for a website only to have the entire course set up to sell their own affiliate program.
On top of the two courses available, you get access to weekly live classes (and 100’s of hours of replays) covering everything there is to know about online marketing. So in summary, the best bits of your education will include:
- Learn how to make your own website on WordPress that you have 100% ownership and control over.
- Become a master at finding niches (website and blog post ideas) that can make you money.
- Ninja level SEO and Google Ads training. Learn how to attract high-quality traffic to your website, both free and paid.
- Learn how to convert traffic into sales. Yes, with affiliate marketing you can make passive income while you sleep, in a tent, in the mountains, after eating pan-fried trout caught fresh from your favourite lake…
Managed WordPress Hosting is incredible value – simply awesome
The value of the managed WordPress hosting is hard to fully grasp if you haven’t managed a website before. I was working for a very large solar power installer when our website was hacked, and the stress involved in getting us back up and running when I didn’t know what to do was immense. Literally millions of dollars worth of business was on the line and I didn’t know what to do.
What would you do if your website got hacked? How much would you pay to get it back up again?
With Wealthy Affiliate, full technical support is included for up to 25 of your own domains (website names), plus another 25 domains hosted on Site Rubix. I’m not sure how to put a value on this, because a large part my appreciation for this service stems from the peace of mind I have knowing that I can ask for help when something goes wrong.
As I mentioned at the top, I saw first hand just how good the technical support can be, having my website back up and running within 3 minutes after it crashed. Absolutely incredible. Website speed is another critical issue and the hosting service of Wealthy Affiliate is the best I’ve ever used. I have previously tried a number of hosts, all of which were more than $50 a month and they were terrible in comparison.
Kyle says in one of the Getting Started videos that their hosting is worth around $250 a month per website, and I actually agree. It’s a big claim, but after having tried a number of hosting companies over the best part of a decade, I haven’t seen website speed or technical support that comes anywhere near the service I now have access to.
The support has saved me time and money
Wealthy Affiliate has a feature that allows you to ask a question. There are 13 different classrooms where you can find the answer to anything relating to affiliate marketing, and if a question hasn’t been answered you simply ask a new one. The classrooms are:
- Getting started
- Affiliate program
- Keyword, niche and market research
- Everything WordPress (really valuable)
- Writing content
- Search engine optimization (getting seen on Google)
- Social engagement
- Website development
- Local marketing
- Video marketing
- Email marketing
- The Wealthy Affiliate platform
- Pay per click advertising
One little thing to watch out for, everyone is encouraged to help each other out, and there is a fantastic ambassadorship program for the most active people who help out the most. The top helpers and content creators get rewarded within the program. But…
When you ask a question, make sure the person who answers it knows what they are talking about. I came into the program with years of marketing experience and so I knew when someone didn’t know what they were talking about. A tip is to follow all of the top-ranked ambassadors to get seriously high-level help, all free of course! My own rule is if you can’t work something out within 10 minutes, ask the Wealthy Affiliate Community.
My time is too valuable to wrestle with something for hours. Once you grow, repay the favour by helping out others.
Let’s Do It!
So that’s a start. There is so much more to learn but go find it all out for yourself. Wealthy Affiliate allows you to learn as you build your site, and if you really commit to giving this opportunity a good crack the results will come.
I believe the only way you will fail is if you give up. Everything can be learned and there is seriously good money to be made. I wish you all the very best of luck on your journey ahead, and hopefully, our paths will cross one day, whether it is up in the wilderness above my farm or perhaps in Vegas for the annual Wealthy Affiliate Conference (exclusive, all expenses paid, high achievers only).
